Why do people visit places where other people were born, lived, fought, or died? What does it mean to be a tourist?
There was no time to waste on October 3rd, 2008, the 18th anniversary of the German reunification. This journey along the German autobahn A 38, from East to West, from Leipzig to Göttingen, could only take one day. 21 sleepless hours, to be precise.
This is not a movie. This is a wild 23-minutes crossover combining elements of documentary, mockumentary, travel clip, freestyle, different subcultures, YouTube chic, and a load of explicit or obscure allusions to German and Western culture.
Thus it follows a tangential structure. Most of the things are just mentioned or shown briefly, it is more like an index to actual contents. Among others, Gustav II Adolf, Nietzsche, Goethe, Cortázar, Pushkin, and infamous German field marshal von Hindenburg are referenced. There is also room for phantasmagoric approaches, like an excessive dialogue about the origin of ABCs hit series Lost.
A visit to the worlds biggest rose collection with more than 8,300 breeds represents historys vulgar romanticism. But also the battlegrounds of the great European wars are passed by, as are poets and philosophers birthplaces, and obscenely large national monuments. Wikipedia is quoted briefly to exemplify the triumph of in-situ knowledge; Creative Commons music by Revolution Void adds some style, not to forget the voice-over hommage à Werner Herzog.

From a chic Parisian cafe to a dimly lit New York studio, fashions dream team has produced the latest Louis Vuitton ads featuring Madonna. The star, along with designer Marc Jacobs and legendary photographer Steven Meisel, joined forces a second time to create Louis Vuittons Fall/Winter 2009 ad campaign. From the collections rich, dark fall colors to the portrait-like feel of each picture, the new ads take a different direction than the previous season. While the two campaigns look very different, there is also a unity about them, explains Marc Jacobs in the press release. So it now feels like we have completed both parts of the story. Meant to evoke the golden age of Hollywood, the moody ads even have Madonna showing off the infamous bunny ears she first wore to the Met Gala back in May.

“Chick Lit tells the story of a young girl named Agatha who one day, while collecting fire wood to blend into an immune-system boosting power shake, encounters a magic well. She knows the well is magic because it smells like Axe, and so she nervously calls three desperate wishes into its still black depths. There isn’t a lot of room for storytelling in a three minute pop song, unless you’re Bright Eyes, so that’s where the story ends, but we definitely intend to pick it up in another song somewhere down the line. For now, try to revel in the promise of this initial set-up.”
