Is this part of the post colonial policy of western companies? Nokia is rapidly declining in the West, India and China are their main markets, yet they wait 6 months before releasing new models here? Is there some logic here?

They don’t sell well when the models are brand new & expensive. After they’re out for a while, the price comes down so they’re more affordable for the market.

I just saw Lego Indy for Wii at a major rental chain. I believe the actual release date isn’t until 6/3. Just curious if there are laws / penalties regulating these things or if release dates are just arbitrary agreements between the manufacturers and the retailers. Anyone?

Where do cinemas in general go to find their films to show? I need a contact or website to buy these new releases as they get released from the producers or studios before they even reach the rest of the theaters. How do I go about? I am starting a small independent cinema in my home town.

First thing first, you need to learn how the movie theatre business works.

Your first lesson: theatres rent movies from the studios, they do not buy them. Films are rented for a percentage of the gross which will often net out to about 55/45 for the studio.

Your second lesson: just because you want a movie in your theatre does not mean you’ll be able to get it when you want it. When you can get a movie will often depend on the kind of business your theatre does and how long your theatre can play the movie. Although it sounds counter-intuitive, the studios are often more concerned with weeks on screen than the actual gross - at least for first run theatres. If you can not guarantee at least 2-3 weeks on screen for most new releases, you will not be able to get most movies the opening weekend.

Your third lesson: not all movie releases are created equally.
-Some movies are wide releases which are available to virtually any theatre nationwide on the opening weekend.
-Some movies are wide releases, but are not available to smaller theatres/markets during the first few weeks.
-Some movies are limited releases which only play in major cities; some limiteds eventually expand to nationwide, some do not.

Finally, you will need to find a film booker who will work as your go between with the studios. It is possible for you to do the film bookings yourself, but it will be difficult without industry contacts. You really need a booker who has the buying power of several hundred screens. This makes it much easier to get what you want than if you’re just a couple screens all by yourself.

I should also add that unless you have some really good connections within the movie industry, you have absolutely zero chance of getting sneak previews, advance screenings, or test screenings in a small town.

If you’re interested in becoming an "art house" where you specialize in smaller studio releases, independent movies, and foreign films, you should understand there is completely different set of dynamics at play.

Well the way to tell is look for new processors from Intel, at the moment the MBP is running Core 2 Duo processors, it has since Novemeber. That model is almost identical to the first one released in January 2006 bar slightly higher specs (bigger hd, more ram).

Apple might choose to launch a (rumoured) LED MBP with Leopard in the spring, but since it’s in the middle of the product cycle it’s hard to say, but Apple can be random.

It’s a safe bet they’ll be updated before the end of the year, if you’re planning on buying soon - wait for Leopard. =)

The new Dragonball: Raging Blast is coming out tomorrow, and its 50$ at gamestop and 60$ at walmart. How many weeks/months do you think it will take until the price drops to a reasonable price, since DB:RB is the same thing as any other previous DBZ fighting game but with better graphics.

I’m a DBZ fan, but not stupid enough to waste 60$ on the same thing but with better picture. So how long do you think it will take?

Hmmmm the prices tend to go down when the demand for the game has ended. So (just as an example) there is a good chance that call of duty modern warfare 2 is gonna be 50$ by next year because everyone will have the game. So maybe a few months I’d say? Likely sometime next year so you may have to wait a while. But then again, I’m not economist so I wouldn’t be able to give a credible opinion

I know its still new but theres always room for more. I know they will make a new one because they have released new versions of the nano and a second iphone so im just looking for a time frame. Any ideas.

Most Electronic manufactures will release their new product line in January during the CES show in Las Vegas. It’s basically the big Expo where all or most electronic companies get together to showcase new products.
Some products may trickle out to the public as the year progresses.

But if you were to buy a new radio today, chances are it would not be obsolete quickly. There would need to be a significant change in technology for that to happen. Most features in a most new radios are already up to date.

Well, Burn After Reading, was in my opinion.. terrible.
Tropic Thunder was brilliant, considering many scenes were improvised.
Ghost Town is completely HILARIOUS! The humour of Ricky Gervais will blow you away!
I would definitely go for ‘Ghost Town’, but it depends what type of genre you want.
