Secrets to Happiness by Sarah Dunn

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Book Reviews, Chick Lit, New Release

I just finished reading this really cute book.  The story follows the life of Holly, who was suddenly divorced a year ago, and her friends.  A mixture of chick lit fun, throw in a friend’s affair and a bit of romance,  this book is easy to read, enjoyable and quite funny.  Holly is a likeable character, although she does come across a little perfect.  This is a good read, a storyline i really enjoyed.  5 stars!

I love Chick Lit…don’t you?

Chick Lit

A quick look at Wikipedia tells us that chick lit is a term used to denote genre fiction within women’s fiction written for and marketed to young women, especially single, working women in their twenties and thirties. Chick lit is very popular, with chick lit titles topping bestseller lists and the creation of imprints devoted entirely to chick lit. It generally deals with the issues of modern women humorously and lightheartedly.

Although usually including romantic elements, chick lit is generally not considered a direct subcategory of the romance novel genre, because in women’s fiction the heroine’s relationship with her family or friends may be equally as important as her relationship with the hero.

Chick lit features hip, stylish, career-driven female protagonists, usually in their twenties and thirties. The women featured in these novels may be obsessed with appearance or have a passion for shopping.

The setting is generally urban and the plot usually follows the characters’ love lives and struggles for professional success (often in the publishing, advertising, public relations, or fashion industry). The style is usually of an airy, irreverent tone and includes frank sexual themes. It frequently makes use of current slang and cliches.

Think Bridget Jones’ Diary, Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada, and, of course, The Secret Life of a Shopaholic.

For me, chick lit is nothing but an irrisitable , fu, can’t-put-down read.  I love nothing more than curling up with a new novel by one of my favourite chick lit authors.

In this column I am going to write a little review about all the chick lit books I love.  I would be absolutely thrilled to hear your comments too!

Happy Reading!

Are there any magazines in the UK that have book reviews and articles?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Book Reviews

It doesn’t have to be a magazine dedicated to books but just include a section on books. Maybe interviews with authors and reviews and that kind of thing

Do you need an actual print magazine? There are some very good ones on-line, if you can use those. Try these sites:

Please can someone give me a website with Book Reviews on?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Book Reviews

I need a website with book reviews on it because what happened is, when I went to school on Friday, my teacher said that we have to write a book review on a novel we read in the past week but she never even told us about it. I basically have just this week-end to do a book review. If she warned us, then most of us in the class would’ve got a book to read. I would’ve got one but I didn’t know at all.

See if one of these sites helps any.

Do you know of any book sites that have extensive reviews and ratings?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Book Reviews

Preferably with a large amount of books reviewed and both professional and customer reviews. I’ve found a few myself, but I’d like to know of one with more book reviews and a detail of the content (like movies have with R, PG-13, etc…). Thanks.

I usually read the reviews on borders.com and barnesandnoble.com.

They provide both professional reviews of the book, a synopsis, and customer reviews with extensive ratings in a variety of categories. I find these sites very helpful in choosing literature to read, even if I’m not looking to buy from them.

Is there any place that will pay for book reviews?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Book Reviews

I understand that a lot just give free books, but i would prefer to be paid. If there aren’t any that pay, what would be the best places to review and get free books? Preferably new works that are good.

There is a great e-books site which is free to join and only recently advertised for people to review their books.
You can download a number of books each month.
I’m not sure how much they pay for the reviews but you may like to check it out.
Best of luck

How to create a free website for book reviews?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Book Reviews

I have a school project/ competition where I need to create a website. Everyone in my class got the same task and the best one will receive a price.

I’d like to make a website similar to "rotten tomatoes" but with books, and gather reviews from critics and get a rating for the book in %.

What’s the best, free, way to complete for that task? It needs to have the ability to "search".

All help would be appreciated :)
I think the best way to do this for free would be a blog!

Try http://wordpress.com/ to sign up for a free blog. You can choose a theme and then start writing your reviews! There’s a search function built in to most blogs and people are able to post their comments on each of your blog posts.

I want to create a website similar to sparknotes. How do they get their book reviews?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Book Reviews

I am interested in starting a website similar to sparknotes/cliffnotes but i am not sure how they originally got their book reviews. I will take any info even if its not about the book reviews because I am not sure how the website business world works?

You have an excellent idea on having to build your own website like sparknotes. To get book reviews, you may want to offer free membership on your site and let your visitors write reviews on the site. But it usually is short reviews. For a detailed review, you will hire a writer for that matter.

In website business, its either you sell a product or service or you offer some free information to people online. You gain either by selling or by the advertisements you put in your site pages. The more popular your website will be, the more income you may have. This is in general point of view, but on how to implement it, that’s another question to answer and may take a lot of space in here.

Try to surf other websites and observe how they do business.

I am trying to find reviews on the book The Outsiders. However, they need to be somewhat professional reviews by a newspaper or magazine.
